Contrary to control females, testosterone-treated female quail display rhythmic cloacal sphincter movements (RCSM), a form of appetitive sexual behavior (ASB) in response to the view of a female and show enhanced Fos expression in the medial preoptic nucleus (POM). If females are in addition treated with an aromatase inhibitor in ovo then they display both RCSM and male typical copulatory behavior (consummatory sexual behavior, CSB) and show enhanced Fos expression after both types of behavior tests.
