The posteromedial cortical nucleus of the amygdala (PMCo) is the only cortical target of the accessory olfactory bulb, and thus constitutes the primary vomeronasal cortex. This work shows that the PMCo shows a pattern of intracortical connections (with other vomeronasal structures, the olfactory cortex and hippocampus, mainly) and cortico-striatal excitatory projections (with the olfactory tubercle and septum) that is consistent with its proposed nature as primary vomeronasal cortex.
