Using EEG and a predictive context, we show that anticipation operates via distinct attentional and motor preparation mechanisms by selectively pre-activating task-dependent brain areas as predictability increases. Before a decisive stimulus, reduced alpha oscillations over visual cortices revealed enhanced attentional preparation. Conversely, the subsequent predictable target elicited enhanced motor preparation (reduced mu oscillations over motor cortices), but no attentional preparation.
