Imaging Mass Spectrometry of Spinal Cord in ALS MALDI imaging mass spectrometry was used for elucidating molecular changes in human spinal cord samples of ALS, a devastating fatal disease, of which the biomolecular pathophysiology remains largely elusive.
The results show differences in protein intensity distribution in human spinal cord as well as significant ALS-related changes in region-specific ubiquitin metabolism.
These findings point towards impaired protein turnover to be essentially involved in ALS pathology.
