We previously cloned the second gene for human myo-inositol monophosphatase, IMPA2. TTX-7, nematode's IMPase, functions for thermotaxis behavior and normal localization of synaptic proteins. Although IMPA2 has been shown to be associated with multiple neuropsychiatric illnesses, Impa2 knockout mice exhibit no overt phenotypes. However, interestingly, it can rescue the nematode ttx-7 phenotype, suggesting an earlier evolutional origin of IMPA2 than IMPA1.
