Kristóf Kelemen, Andrea Kriván and Tibor Standovár Effects of land-use history and current management on ancient woodland herbs in Western Hungary Journal of Vegetation Science 25
We showed striking differences of herbaceous species composition among forest stands with different land-use history. Ancient forest species (with low dispersal ability) were most abundant in old ancient forests, some were entirely missing from old recent (post-agricultural) stands largely dominated by competitive species. Young ancient stands were dominated by few shade-tolerant herbs and were lacking most ancient forest species.
