Tiffany Pillay and David Ward Competitive effect and response of savanna tree seedlings: comparison of survival, growth and associated functional traits Journal of Vegetation Science 25
Inter and/or intra-specific tree competition is a fundamental driver of savanna ecosystems. We investigated the importance of tree on tree competition during the early growth stages of humid and mesic savanna tree seedlings. We found that neighbourhood competition decreased the growth and survival of seedlings, and that the competitive ability of tree species was linked to several plant functional traits.
