Geological classes defined by lithology and broad landform features control major variation of edaphic and floristic patterns (based on Zingiberales) of non-inundated forests in central Amazonia, and therefore the usual classification schemes based on local topography are not valid for larger scales. We also demonstrate the usefulness of model-based clustering and geodesic floristic distances.
