Environmental factors model BSC communities, determining the identity and abundance of BSC species. As expected, we found that large scale factors (e.g. precipitation), influenced BSC diversity and composition at the community level. However, we observed contrasting species-specific responses to local scale factors (e.g. soil type, vascular plants), showing interesting differences in size and nature.
