Understanding the mechanisms underlying bioclimatic transitions is a central goal in Ecology and Global Change Research. However, the role of biotic constrains on setting bioclimatic limits among functionally contrasting late-successional species is poorly explored. The effects of shrubs can be critical on elevation shifts of species under changing conditions in bioclimatic transitions (i.e. climate and land-use change).
