<Rene-De-Borst.jpg>

Rene de Borst has been elected as a member of the prestigious European Academy of Sciences and Arts with the inauguration set to take place in March 2015.

This year he is also the first holder of the John Argyris Visiting Professorship at the University of Stuttgart and gave the first John Argyris Honorary Lecture in this capacity on 2 July. The Argyris Visiting Professorship commemorates John Argyris, one of the most decorated experts and innovative thinkers in the field of Simulation Technology.

He is also the MTS Visiting Professor of Geomechanics at the University of Minnesota for 2014 and will deliver the Vardoulakis Lecture in Minneapolis on 31 October. This is fitting as Ioannis Vardoulakis was an excellent scientist in geomechanics, and until he passed away too early, a valued member of the Editorial Board of IJNAMG.
