Instrumental approaches that measure dynamic surface tension changes on a relevant timescale can be advantageous relative to classical static measurements of surface tension, which are limited in providing information about time-dependent surface tension changes. This article highlights the advances in surface tension measurements offered by the dynamic surface tension detector (DSTD). The surface tension signal is shown to provide unique selectivity and useful chemical information for polymer and protein analysis.
