When the sperm and egg come together at fertilization, the genomes of each cell must be restructured to support embryonic development. This Special Issue, 'Epigenetics: From Germ Line to Implantation', will position us to better understand the dynamic changes in the chromatin states of gametogenesis, after fertilization, and during the development of the resulting embryo, and provides insight to the special ways in which stem cells utilize epigenetic mechanisms to retain their characteristic potency.
