2012_22/2012Singlet Carbenes Derived from Ferrocene and Closely Related Sandwich Complexes (Eur. J. Inorg. Chem. 22/2012)

The cover picture shows the molecular structure of an N-heterocyclic carbene with a ferrocene-based backbone. This unique blend of the ferrocene and carbene motifs gives rise to compounds of fantastic reactivity, completely unprecedented for diaminocarbenes. With its ferrocene-like orange colour the cover picture stresses that the properties of carbenes have been changed dramatically through combining them with ferrocene-based moieties. The Microreview by U. Siemeling on p. 3523 ff. systematically addresses the different ways of ferrocene–carbene combination, together with the sometimes spectacular achievements in this area. The cover picture also underlines that results that may appear like revolutionary progress are mostly due to an evolutionary scientific process.
