2012_26/2012One-Pot Synthesis of Metal-Doped Mesoporous Materials from (Dicyanamido)metallate Precursors (Eur. J. Inorg. Chem. 26/2012)

The cover picture shows the blue solution of bis(N-hexadecylpyridinium) tetrakis(dicyanamido)cobaltate in acetone, from which it is finally isolated by evaporation of the solvent as the purple powder (also depicted). In the foreground, a three-dimensional model of the dicyanamide anion is shown, which represents the crucial chemical building block of our system. The anion can coordinate to transition metals, such as Ni2+ and Co2+, while the depicted pyridinium or imidazolium ions are used as countercations. The resulting (dicyanamido)metallate salts can be used as highly versatile precursors for interesting materials, of which some electron micrographs are shown exemplarily on the right side of the picture. Details are discussed in the article by J. P. Paraknowitsch et al. on p. 4105 ff.
