2013_27/2013Platinum(II) Complexes Bearing 2-(9,9-Dihexadecyl-7-R-fluoren-2-yl)-1,10-phenanthroline Ligands: Synthesis, Photophysics and Reverse Saturable Absorption (Eur. J. Inorg. Chem. 27/2013)

The cover picture shows the mechanism of reverse saturable absorption (RSA) of platinum(II) complexes bearing 2-(9,9-dihexadecyl-7-R-fluoren-2-yl)-1,10-phenanthroline ligands and illustrates the consequence of RSA, i.e. reducing the energy of the laser beam after interaction with reverse saturable absorbers. S0, S1, Sx, T1, and Tx in the picture refer to the ground state, first singlet excited state, higher singlet excited state, first triplet excited state, and higher triplet excited state, respectively. ISC represents intersystem crossing from the singlet to the triplet excited state. Heavy atoms like platinum can enhance the ISC and thus increase the RSA for ns laser pulses. NDSUCHEM refers to the North Dakota State University Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Details are discussed in the article by X.-G. Liu and W. Sun on p. 4732 ff.
