2013_28/2013Syntheses and Solid-State Structures of Bis(dialkylstibanyl)sulfanes and -telluranes (Eur. J. Inorg. Chem. 28/2013)

The cover picture shows the thermally induced transformation of polycrystalline (diethylstibanyl)tellurane, (Et2Sb)2Te, into a single-crystalline sample by use of an IR laser, which allows melting and recrystallization of the sample in a N2 cooling steam directly on the diffractometer. This method, which was initially established at the University of Duisburg-Essen by Prof. Boese et al., was successfully used in our group for the structural characterization of inorganic compounds such as halogen azides XN3 (X = Cl, Br, I), which are extremely labile liquids at ambient conditions, as well as small metal organic complexes. The in situ crystallization technique provides useful structural information for small molecules and allows a detailed investigation of their intermolecular interactions in the solid state. Details are discussed in the article by S. Schulz et al. on p. 4909 ff. For more on the story behind the cover research, see the Cover Profile.
