Cover Picture: Tools for Glycomics: Mapping Interactions of Carbohydrates in Biological Systems (ChemBioChem 10/2004)
The cover picture shows a tri(ethylene glycol) linker derivatized high-mannose nonasaccharide and a panel of related structural determinants which were used to prepare biophysical tools for the emerging field of glycomics. The background shows carbohydrate microarray data for high-mannose oligosaccharides bound by a panel of carbohydrate-binding proteins, including the HIV-inactivating proteins Cyanovirin-N and Scytovirin (see binding profiles in middle). DC-SIGN-mediated endocytosis of fluorescein-oligosaccharide conjugates (green) colocalized (yellow) with DC-SIGN (red) in human dendritic cells (top left) and transiently transfected HeLa cells expressing DC-SIGN (bottom right) were observed by confocal microscopy.
