Cover Picture: Dynamics-Based Amplification of RNA Function and Its Characterization by Using NMR Spectroscopy (ChemBioChem 9/2005)

6_09/2005The cover picture shows complementary solution-NMR techniques (scalar couplings, spin relaxation, chemical exchange, and residual dipolar couplings) that can be applied to investigate different types of internal motions in RNA. When combined, these techniques offer sensitivity to motions spanning the picosecond-to-second timescales, such as librations, dihedral fluctuations, collective dynamics, and structural transitions. These motions are believed to play an essential role in functionally important transitions in RNA conformation, which are generally induced by external cellular signals. More details are given in the review by H. M. Al Hashimi on p. 1507 ff.
