12_06i/2011Inside Cover: Inhibition of Influenza Virus Activity by Multivalent Glycoarchitectures with Matched Sizes (ChemBioChem 6/2011)

The inside cover picture shows polyglycerol-based nanogels (~50 nm, blue) functionalized with sialic acid residues (orange). These glycocalyx mimetics are excellent inhibitors of influenza virus (green) binding and fusion. The optimal multivalent inhibitor reduces viral activity by up to 80 %; this emphasizes the importance of particle dimension and polyvalency for efficient competition with the cell surface (yellow).
