Just Published: Special Issue on RNA

Under the guest editorship of Professors Harald Schwalbe, Michael Göbel (both Univ. Frankfurt/Main, Germany), and Günther Wess (Aventis Germany), ChemBioChem has just published a special issue on RNA—probably the key functional component of the ribosome and other complex molecular machines such as the spliceosome, it also plays an important role in gene regulation.

This issue is the second in a series based on workshops on chemical biology organized by the University of Frankfurt and Aventis (see also the special issue on G-protein-coupled receptors). The contributions in this issue reflect the focus of this year's workshop on RNA targeting and include:

  • Review: Oligonucleotide-Based Knockdown Technologies: Antisense Versus RNA Interference (K. Heermeier et al.)
  • Review: NMR-Spectroscopy of RNA (H. Schwalbe et al.)
  • Minireview: Genetic Control by Metabolite-Binding Riboswitches (W. C. Winkler, R. Breaker)
  • Minireview: Targeting RNA with Small Molecules (Y.Tor)
  • Minireview: Structural Insight Into Functional Aspects of Ribosomal RNA Targeting (A. Yonath)
  • Full Paper: The Molecular Basis for A-site Mutations Conferring Aminoglycoside Resistance: Relationship Between Ribosomal Susceptibility and X-ray Crystal Structures (E. C. Böttger, E. Westhof et al.)
  • Full Paper: Stereoselective Synthesis using Immobilized Diels-Alderase Ribozymes (A. Jäschke et al.)
