Cover Picture: Enhanced Operational Stability of the Up-Conversion Fluorescence in Films of Palladium–Porphyrin End-Capped Poly(pentaphenylene) (ChemPhysChem 7/2005)
The cover picture shows poly(laddertype pentaphenylene) hosts end-capped with palladium tetratolylporphyrin guest moieties. After absorption of photons (green arrows) in the singlet Q-band of the porphyrin molecule, due to effective intersystem crossing, the porphyrin's long-lived triplet state is populated. In their Communication on page 1250 Baluschev et al. consider the excited triplet states as a reservoir of excited states for the subsequent energy transfer (grey arrows) leading to up-conversion photoluminescence (blue arrow) of the host molecules. Phosphorescence emission of the guest molecules is also observed (red arrow).
