Cover Picture: Scanning Tunneling Microscopy and Spectroscopy of Donor–Acceptor–Donor Triads at the Liquid/Solid Interface (ChemPhysChem 11/2005)
The cover picture shows a submolecularly resolved scanning tunneling microscopy current image and scanning tunneling spectroscopy curves of a mixture of two physisorbed donor (oligo-p-phenylenevinylene)–acceptor (perylene diimide)–donor (oligo-p-phenylenevinylene) triads at the liquid–solid interface. By means of bias-dependent imaging and scanning tunneling spectroscopy, it is not only possible to distinguish both triads, which differ in the nature of the substituents in the bay area of the central perylene diimide acceptor, but also to identify the donor and acceptor moieties within a given triad.
