Cover Picture: Combined AFM and Two-Focus SFCS Study of Raft-Exhibiting Model Membranes (ChemPhysChem 11/2006)
The cover picture shows the simultaneous application of atomic force microscopy (AFM), laser scanning microscopy (LSM) and two-focus scanning fluorescence spectroscopy (SFCS) on a model membrane of biological relevance. While structural data is provided by the nanoscopic spatial resolution of the AFM, 2-focus SFCS can be used to probe the diffusion of proteins and lipids in distinct microdomains of the lipid bilayer. In the article on page 2409, S. Chiantia and J. Ries et al. show that the lateral organization of lipid and proteins can be reliably probed by the combined approach of these techniques.
