The cover picture shows the 300-MHz 1H-NMR microscopic image of a section through a leaf of the plant Bryophyllum tubiflore with a spatial resolution of 15 × 15 × 250 μm3. Individual plant cells (orange) showing a structure comparable to Figure 27 of the review by W. Kuhn et al. on p. 1 ff are clearly visible. The differences in contrast and color are a result of the changes in susceptibility of the cell membranes. Also recognizable are the vascular bundles. Furthermore, in the central and some other vascular bundles. phloem (green inside) and xylen (blue, outside) are clearly distinguishable. This is not possible in the black and white photomicrographs (Fig. 27a) because of too small a dynamic range of the grey scale.
