37_10/1998The cover picture shows a portion of the strucure of KH(O2)CO2 · H2O2, the first saltlike hydrogen peroxocarbonate to be characterized by X-ray crystal structure analysis. An isolated hydrogen peroxocarbonate anion is presented in the foreground (C: grey, H: white, O: red); the linkage of the [H(O2)CO2] anions with each other by hydrogen bonds as well as the linkage of the anions by H2O2 molecules through hydrogen bonds to form a 2{[H(O2)CO2](H2O2)} layer can be seen in the background. The potassium ions that are embedded between these layers and are each coordinated by nine oxygen atoms are not shown. More about this interesting compound, which has a remarkably high content of releasable oxygen, is reported by Adam and Mehta on pages 1387–1388
