Cover Picture (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 7/1999)
The cover picture shows the molecular structure of a macrocyclic aluminum ring system—a structural analogue of calixpyrrole. The authors did not need a space suit to construct this molecule, but it was synthesized under a rarefied atmosphere and is shown in the earth's orbit to celebrate the first steps in the assembly of the International Space Station. More about novel aluminum-containing ring structures is reported by V. C. Gibson et al. on pages 961–964. The cover image was generated by Sue Johnson of Imperial College using Photoshop.
