In the background, a microscope image shows the Actinomycetes strain from which sangliferin has been isolated. Around the picture, a simplified diagram indicates that sangliferin A (SFA), similarly to cyclosporin A (CsA), binds to cyclophilin (CyP). Both molecules have a potent immunosuppresive effect in vitro and in vivo. More details on the first simple macrolid analogues of SFA, which bind cyclophilin, are reported by J. Wagner et al. on pages 2443 ff.
