The mode of the self-assembly of (3,4,5)2G2-CO2Me monodendrons changes from a spherical to a pyramidal supramolecular dendrimer upon replacement of the aliphatic chains by partially fluorinated chains. This metamorphosis was verified with a combination of small- and wide-angle X-ray diffraction, electron density calculations, and molecular modeling studies.
