Cover Picture: Regulatory Strategies in the Complexation and Release of a Noncovalent Guest Trimer by a Self-Assembled Molecular Cage (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 46/2003)
An artificial enzyme or virus? The cover picture shows the single crystals and X-ray crystal structure of a hydrogen-bonded trimeric guest complexed by a self-assembled molecular container. Not only is the structure topologically very similar to that of viruses and enzymes, the receptor also exhibits primitive regulatory strategies of the type featured by these natural systems. For further details, see the Communication by D. N. Reinhoudt, M. Crego-Calama, and co-workers on page 5717 ff.
