Cover Picture: Platonic Gold Nanocrystals (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 28/2004)
Platonic shapes of gold nanocrystals are prepared by a modified polyol process in the presence of the surface-regulating polymer poly(vinyl pyrrolidone). P. Yang and co-workers describe in their Communication on page 3673 ff. how the careful regulation of the growth rate along different crystallographic directions allows exquisite shape control. The drawing in the center of the cover picture was proposed by the astronomer Johannes Kepler in the 17th century, in which one platonic solid fits between each pair of planetary spheres.
