44_02/2005A domino reaction consists of several consecutive transformations in which the functions required for one reaction are generated in the preceding bond-formation or fragmentation step. L. F. Tietze et al. applied this concept to the synthesis of vitamin E described on page 257 ff. They developed an enantioselective palladium-catalyzed process for the construction of the chiral chroman framework with 96 % ee and concomitant introduction of part of the side chain.
