44_36/2005Extreme shortening of a C-C bond results from an increase in the s character of the bond orbitals, as is found in hexakis(trimethylsilyl)tetrahedranyltetrahedrane, which is depicted in the cover picture. Although a decade ago nobody assumed that such a derivative could be isolated, in their Communication on page 5821 ff. A. Sekiguchi and M. Tanaka describe the synthesis and characterization of this highly sought after target, which agrees perfectly with theoretical predictions.

In their Review on page 5788 ff., B. F. Cravatt, E. J. Sorensen, and C. Drahl describe the mechanisms and consequences of covalent modification of amino acid residues in the active sites of proteins by small-molecule natural products.

Coordination Polymersfor002

In their Communication on page 5810 ff., M. Lee and co-workers introduce cationic coordination polymers that respond to the type of counteranions bound by undergoing a conformational change. As a result, the solution's bulk properties can be reversibly switched between gel and liquid states.

Coordination Networksfor003

Three different coordination networks from nickel salts, 4,4'-bipyridine, and a V-shaped 4,4'-oxybis(benzoate) ligand are described by E.-B. Wang, Z.-M. Su, L. Carlucci et al. in their Communication on page 5824 ff.
