π–π-Stacking interactions induce the discrete stacking of porphine guests in the box-shaped cavity of organic-pillared coordination cages. M. Fujita and co-workers describe in their Communication on page 1803 ff. how two porphine molecules are stacked directly or layered with an aromatic spacer depending on the cavity size (see picture). When the porphine guest contains a copper(II) ion, a CuII–CuII spin–spin exchange interaction is observed for the directly stacked dimer only.
