Inside Cover: Metalation of Expanded Porphyrins: A Chemical Trigger Used To Produce Molecular Twisting and Möbius Aromaticity (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 4/2008)
Möbius aromatic and Hückel antiaromatic molecules have been formed by metalation of a non-aromatic octaphyrin. D. Kim, A. Osuka et al. report in their Communication on page 681 ff. that Möbius aromatic molecules are readily and spontaneously formed by metalation of octaphyrin, heptaphyrin, and hexaphyrin with Pd(OAc)2. This simple method is facile and surprisingly quite general. The Möbius strip in the picture is the stone artwork entitled “NAMI-wave” created by Shiro Kamibeppu at Awaji Yumebutai.
