Inside Cover: Metalation of Expanded Porphyrins: A Chemical Trigger Used To Produce Molecular Twisting and Möbius Aromaticity (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 4/2008)
Möbius aromatic and Hückel antiaromatic molecules have been formed by metalation of a non-aromatic octaphyrin. D. Kim, A. Osuka et al. report in their Communication on page 681 ff. that Möbius aromatic molecules are readily and spontaneously formed by metalation of [36]octaphyrin, [32]heptaphyrin, and [26]hexaphyrin with Pd(OAc)2. This simple method is facile and surprisingly quite general. The Möbius strip in the picture is the stone artwork entitled “NAMI-wave” created by Shiro Kamibeppu at Awaji Yumebutai.
