Transannular cyclization of dehydrobenzoannulenes is a powerful method to construct new carbon frameworks that are otherwise difficult to achieve. In their Communication on page 4184 ff., Y. Tobe and co-workers show that the reaction of dehydrobenzoannulenes with n-butyllithium leads to an unprecedented oxidative cyclodimerization to form eight-membered-ring products, following threefold transannular bond formations across a 14-membered ring.
