B,N-heterocyclic compounds undergo photoelimination of an R-H molecule from a CH2-BR2 unit in solution and in the solid state, generating highly fluorescent azaborine molecules in high yields. In their Communication on page 4554 ff., S. Wang et al. show that this unusual photoelimination is a convenient method for the production of patterned fluorescent films (see “Queen's” in picture) in the solid state.
