Cover: The cover picture shows the preparation of high performance biodegradable nanocomposites of polylactide and organically modified layered silicates by using nanocomposite technology. Packaging or disposable items can be disposed of in compost, and these are safely decomposed into carbon dioxide, water, and humus through the activity of microorganisms. The carbon dioxide and water will become corn or sugarcane again through plant photosynthesis. Thus, these materials hold future promise for potential applications as high-performance biodegradable materials and open a new dimension for plastics and composites.
