Cover: The application of an oscillating tensile load to a nitrocellulose film causes its degradation as detected by mass spectrometry (MS). An isothermal dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA)-MS run is shown. This combination of DMA with MS provides a new approach to detecting mechanochemical degradation under moderate strain fields.
