Cover: The cover picture shows the acyl-enzyme intermediate formed between 2-azetidinone and Candida antarctica lipase B derived via docking with subsequent combined QM/MM geometry optimization. The enzyme-catalyzed ring-opening polymerization of 2-azetidinone proceeds via this intermediate. It is shown that poly(β-alanine) can be prepared by enzyme catalysis and that the ring structure of the 2-azetidinone is essential for the formation of the acyl-enzyme intermediate.
