This issue's back cover illustration refers to the article by Pablo Etchegoin et al. (pp. 1125–1132) giving a detailed analysis of the Raman spectra of natural and isotopically substituted lead sulfide (PbS). PbS is an important semiconductor that has found technological applications for over a century. Raman scattering in isotopically substituted PbS reveals details of the phonon band structure and anharmonic interactions. For the quantitative interpretation of the spectra the authors performed ab-initio calculations of phonon dispersion relations and the corresponding densities of two-phonon states.
