Making use of the electron's spin degree of freedom raises hopes for a new class of integrated circuits for commercial use, which due to their nonvolatility, higher data processing speed, and smaller size compared with conventional electronic devices would be a great technological leap forward. The cover illustration is taken from the Feature Article by Maciej Misiorny and Józef Barnas (starting on p. 695) which investigates magnetic properties of single-molecule magnets (SMMs) focusing on possible mechanisms of magnetic switching (© 2009 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
