In the Feature Article by Dirk Sander and Jürgen Kirschner (pp. 2389–2397), recent results of experimental studies on magnetoelastic coupling in epitaxial monolayers are compiled and discussed in view of theoretical work. As shown by the cover image, magnetoelastic stress induces a change of curvature of a film-substrate composite upon magnetization reorientation. The sensitivity of the set-up allows determining the magnetoelastic coupling coefficients B in monolayer thin films, where the radius of curvature is as large as 100 km. The example shows measurements of 8 ML Fe on Ir(100).
