Current flexible circuits bend but do not stretch. Tortuous metal wires supported by a rubber circuit board (main image) have been fabricated that could withstand over 50 % elongation. An application of this approach is demonstrated by Chen and co-workers (p. 393) in which working circuits are able to function while being stretched or twisted.
