Lasing: Room Temperature Excitonic Whispering Gallery Mode Lasing from High-Quality Hexagonal ZnO Microdisks (Adv. Mater. 19/2011)
Ultraviolet excitonic whispering gallery mode (WGM) lasing from individual hexagonal-shaped ZnO microdisks is reported on p. 2199 by Han Dong Sun and co-workers. The inside cover illustrates the five growth processes for the ZnO microdisks and WGM lasing emitted from the edges of such disks. The work provides detailed WGM lasing characteristics for the microdisks, which may lead to promising applications for low-threshold UV lasers and high-sensitivity sensors.
