Theranostic Nanoshells: Facile Synthesis of Monodisperse Superparamagnetic Fe3O4 Core@hybrid@Au Shell Nanocomposite for Bimodal Imaging and Photothermal Therapy (Adv. Mater. 45/2011)
A simple but controllable seed-mediated growth route to fabricate a monodisperse, uniform superparamagnetic Fe3O4 core/gold shell structured nanocomposite is reported by Yongsheng Li, Jianlin Shi, and co-workers on page 5392. An intense magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) con-trasting effect is generated in a 3D magnetic field, allowing the identification of the location and size of a tumor, and targeted NIR laser-induced photo-thermal therapy is carried out.
