Supramolecular nanoribbons formed by dendron rod-coil molecules show ordered birefringence. S.L. Stupp et al. describe in the Feb. 5 issue how self-assembling block molecules containing dendritic, rodlike, and flexible segments can cause certain monomers to gel into ordered birefringent media (see: Adv. Mater. 2002, 14, 198 - 203).
