Thermochromic polypeptides.....

Comb-like poly(beta-aspartate)s that adopt layered arrangements with well-defined phase transitions are reported by S. Munoz-Guerra et al. in the Feb. 5 issue. Outstanding thermochromic effects are displayed by these materials under polarized light, with a rapid, fully reversible color response that is highly sensitive to temperature and that can be adjusted by copolymerization (see: Adv. Mater. 2002, 14, 203-205).
