ZnO micropatterning.....

ZnO micropatterning under very mild conditions is presented. Photolysis (using a mask) of Si-C bonds in a self-assembled phenylsilane layer yields a patterned phenyl/hydroxy surface. ZnO is selectively deposited at 55 °C on the phenyl domains by an electroless deposition using a Pd catalyst stuck to the surface. The viability of the ZnO pattern as a phosphor was shown by a visible light cathodoluminescence image (N. Saito et al., March 18; Adv. Mater. 2002, 14, 418-421).
