A polymer inverse opal.....

A polymer inverse opal with a tunable bandgap is presented. It is shown that, when the opal is infiltrated with nematic liquid crystal, tuning of the stop band upon the application of an electric field is possible. A discontinuous transition of the lamdaLC shift upon a change in the voltage is observed (M. Ozaki, et al., April 2; Adv. Mater. 2002, 14, 514-518).
